According to a new poll conducted by NBC and the Wall Street Journal, voters in key counties Trump turned to his favor in the 2016 election are reporting they are now worse off than they were before.
41 percent of Trump voters in these key counties report that the country is in a worse place. 53 percent of the voters say that Trump has no "clear agenda." 32 percent of respondents are happy with the direction the country is headed.
More respondents reported a negative job approval (50 percent), than those who approved of the president (48 percent), though the latter is higher than the feelings of the country at large.
These results come at the heels of a CNN poll that showed the president's approval rating has continued to plummet among voters generally.
According to NBC, "It's worth noting that the "Trump counties" sample is whiter, more rural, less educated and older than the nation as a whole. Trump won these counties by a margin of 57 percent to 37 percent in 2016."

Perhaps the most telling was some of the discussions NBC reported with voters in surge counties.
They quoted one voter in Ohio as saying, “I feel that he is tearing us apart and trying to bring more divide between the blacks and whites and Hispanics — and trying to make the rich richer and the poor poorer."
Another woman in the Midwest had harsh words for Trump: “He needs to shut his mouth and he needs to sit and think before he speaks," NBC reported. “The economy I am not worried about. I am more worried about the world crisis and his starting a third world war.”
